May 2020 experienced near average overnight and daytime temperatures. Daytime temperatures were 1 \u00baC above average during the month until a number of cool to cold days between the 22nd and 24th reduced the mean maximum temperature to near average. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In May very little rainfall was observed during the month, with a total of 12.1 mm (12% of the long term average) and the lowest for May since 2004. 70 % of the rainfall occurred on the 21st due to the passage of the trough followed by a cold and dry air mass brought by a complex low pressure over southern Australia. Rainfall otherwise during the month was comprised of light showers with low daily rainfall totals, mostly in the middle of the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Long period rainfall totals also continued to reduce further in May followed continued below average rainfall during autumn. Anomalies from the long term average reduced further as a result with 9 monthly to 48 monthly below average, with the lowest being 18 month rainfall being 368 mm. But given that significant rainfall was experienced at the start of the year, 6 monthly rainfall is still above average (60.5 mm above average and in the highest 20% of records). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
